Doodly vs VideoScribe: which whiteboard tool should you pick in 2026?

Doodly is the tool many people picture when they hear 'doodle video'. It is a desktop application, so it works offline and renders on your own machine with no per-month download cap. Its characters and props come with pre-drawn 'draw paths', which is what makes the hand look natural when it sketches them.

Doodly is no longer sold on its own: it is bundled into Voomly Cloud (Standard versions of Doodly, Toonly, Talkia, People Builder and Pyks) at $49 a month or $490 a year, and Voomly Pro (Enterprise versions) at $79 a month or $790 a year. If you also want cartoon-style videos (Toonly) or a text-to-speech tool (Talkia), the bundle is good value. If you only want whiteboard videos, you are paying for four tools to use one.

Two things to know before buying: the stock library is black and white unless you add Doodly Rainbow ($67 one-time), and the old lifetime licences that were sold on deal sites are not available on the current pricing page.

VideoScribe (by Sparkol) is the other classic, and its annual pricing is lower: Lite at €165 a year for five downloads a month, Core at €245 for thirty, Max at €305 for unlimited downloads, all in 1080p. It runs in the browser, has a huge image library with 200+ music tracks, and templates that give you a starting structure.

Its limits are per plan: Lite caps videos at five minutes, Core at ten, Max at twenty, and the AI helpers (image generation, script drafts, voice-over) have monthly allowances, for example 50 images and 75 minutes of script and voice-over on Core. For long-form YouTube content the download cap and the length cap matter more than the price.

The workflow is the same as Doodly's: you decide, element by element, when the hand draws and for how long, then adjust until it matches the narration. Good results are possible; they just take hours, and every script change means re-timing.

Instadoodle and similar one-time-purchase tools copy Doodly's library-and-timeline model at a lower entry price, usually with a smaller asset library, less frequent updates and the same manual timing. If the decision is Doodly vs Instadoodle, the practical question is whether the library has what your videos need and whether the company will still be updating the software next year.

None of these tools changes the underlying economics: the time you spend timing drawings is the same, and it scales with every minute of video.
