How we compared them

Disclosure: this is not an independent review. We make AnimatedBoard, so it comes first in the ranking, for the job it was built for: turning a written script into a narrated video. For every other tool we used only what its maker publishes, its pricing page, plan comparison and help center, checked on the dates given on this page. We name the cases where another tool is the better pick, and the limits of our own.

We looked at each tool the way a YouTube creator or an educator would: how long it takes to go from a finished script to a finished video, whether the drawing is synced to the narration automatically or by hand, what the exported file looks like, and what you actually pay once the trial ends.

    Pick a script-first tool. The hours you save on timing every drawing are the difference between one video a month and one a week.

  • You need a specific stock character in every video

    A classic editor with a library (VideoScribe, Doodly) gives you the same stock character every time. In AnimatedBoard, on a paid plan, you add your own character with a description or a photo and it appears throughout the video, drawn in its look.

Can whiteboard animation software use my own voice?
