The Doodly alternative that draws your script for you

Doodly is a desktop whiteboard-animation editor for Windows and macOS. You drag characters, props and scenes from its library onto a canvas, arrange them on a timeline and set how long the hand takes to draw each one, then add a voice-over. It made doodle videos accessible to non-designers and it is still a capable tool.

The reasons people search for a Doodly alternative are consistent: it is no longer sold on its own but inside the Voomly bundle (Voomly Cloud at $49 a month or $490 a year with the Standard version, Voomly Pro at $79 a month or $790 a year with the Enterprise version); its stock library is black and white unless you buy the Doodly Rainbow colour add-on for $67; the lifetime licences that were once sold on deal sites are gone from the pricing page; and, above all, every drawing still has to be timed to the voice by hand.

Is Doodly free? No. There is a Voomly Light free plan, but it does not include Doodly. If you want to try a whiteboard tool for free, AnimatedBoard gives you your first minute of video without a card.

Doodly lifetime: one-time lifetime licences were sold in the past through deal sites. They are not on the current pricing page, and buyers of those deals often look for alternatives when they need features that came later.

Doodly colour: the built-in library is black and white. Colour versions of the assets come with the Doodly Rainbow add-on, a $67 one-time purchase. In AnimatedBoard colour is included: the Whiteboard look is black marker with touches of blue and orange, looks such as Spark and Chalk Lights are bright, and the nine story looks are full colour.

If you rely on a specific recurring stock character across all your videos, want to work offline, or will actually use Toonly and Talkia from the bundle, Doodly inside Voomly is still a reasonable purchase. Timeline editors also suit people who enjoy fine-tuning every stroke.

If you write a script first and want the video to come out of it, with the sync and the illustrations done, an AI script-to-video tool is the alternative that changes how much you can publish.
